WELCOME TO QWEST PIONEERS

ARIZONA CHAPTER 66

Patricia A. DeBusk, AZ Chapter President

Qwest TelecomPioneers

To see our organization grow and to see all the fine works accomplished by our Pioneers in our communities and throughout the world.

Alexander Graham Bell, a teacher of the deaf and inventor extraordinaire, was a Charter Member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. This was the name of our organization at the time of its inception in 1911.

It was only fitting that some of our first projects years ago involved helping children and adults with special needs. We still remain dedicated to those needs with our many projects and have increased our scope to include educational projects in schools, scholarships, work with battered and abused women and children, the homeless and children in crisis to name a few.

Around the world, our Pioneers participate in a program called Telephone Pioneer Santa Goodwill Tours, which is organized by a travel agency in New York City. Our Pioneers from around the United States appear as Santa and Mrs. Claus to children and adults in many foreign countries bringing to them our joy and goodwill.

Welcome to our Qwest TelecomPioneer Web Site. Let me introduce myself. I am your AZ Chapter President for this calendar year of 2007. My history with Pioneering goes back about 35 years or more, however, my service with the telephone company was much shorter. Working for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. and Mountain Bell, I left to raise our family after only seven years in the Commercial Department. Since my husband Bob started with the company before I did and remained until his retirement with 35 years service, at the age of 53, both of us continued to be actively involved with Pioneering.

Over the years, It has been a great joy ers as well as our members who are still working in the telecommunications industry are very involved with our projects. Those who are officers on our Executive Boards work very hard keeping the organization viable and are to be commended for their dedication to Pioneering. We are international with members not only in the United States but Canada and Mexico as well.

We invite you to join us in our fine works throughout our communities. All of you, working and retired, may become members. Your spouses and significant others are welcome and are called Pioneer Partners. There is a project out there just waiting for you. Some are short and some long term and we could use your help.

TelecomPioneers would like to get your thoughts and opinions with respect to volunteerism and community involvement.

Your opinion matters as it will help us chart a future course to create opportunities for members to be engaged and involved in making their communities better places to live and work. That’s why I am personally asking you to take 10 minutes of your time to complete our web-based survey.
