Qwest Pioneers Sponsor Rest Stop for MS150 Bike Race
On Saturday June 27, Qwest Pioneers Auraria Council participated in the
MS150 Bike Race by sponsoring the 3rd rest stop in Longmont, CO. Over
3,000 riders made their way through Erie, Longmont, Hygiene (Qwest Pioneer Support Tent in
Hygiene) through Masonville and Horsetooth into the city of Fort Collins and tent
party at CSU Campus. The Pioneer volunteers provided, shade, fruit, health bars, Gatorade
and water for the weary riders. We also provided encouragement with loud
cheering, cowbells and bullhorns.
The riders were friendly and extremely appreciative. Several Qwest
employees participated in the ride and introduced themselves and chatted as
they enjoyed their healthy snacks. We
enjoyed lots of fun and laughter, one group of riders (The Wild Ones) composed
and performed a cheer for us.
There were 6 tandem bikes but one inspired us the most. Theresa Montano
is the sister in law of Gerri Jackson (Pioneer member), and was the only blind
rider on the entire trip!
Many thanks to Butch Krist for organizing the project and to everyone who
volunteered their time that day!
