Dubuque
Greetings to all from your Pioneer friends in Dubuque. We hope each of you has a great new year. We wrapped up 2007 with our annual Christmas party on December 19th with forty- three Pioneers and guests celebrating the past year. We also delivered poinsettias to those unable to make the meeting. Had a few left over to give for door prizes as well.
Our local leadership recently had a planning session to set the agenda for 2008. We do not have meetings in January or February and will kick off the new year with a meeting Wednesday, March 19th, at the Eagles Club. Our meetings are scheduled for the third Wednes- day of each month and are held at Eagles Club on 1175 Century Drive. A noon luncheon followed with a brief business meeting and some great fellowship. For details of events you may con- tact Nick Lucy at 563-583-4382 or at his e-mail nrlucy@aol.com.If Nick is not available, please give Pat and Jan Glew a call at 563-582-9862
Our former club president, Tom Stallsmith, passed away Febru-. ary 17th, 2008, and will be sadly missed as he was a very active Pioneer. He was 78 years old.
We also lost a friendly soul, Lorraine Schuster, in late December. She was at our November meeting and shared her smile with us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of their families.
On a lighter side, one of our members, Kent Bainbridge, retired late last year and we wish him and his wife, Mary, many happy years of a fun filled retirement.
On another note, we want to thank John Sjobakken and Jerry Burds for assisting the Knights of Columbus with the Christmas Crib scene in Washington Park. This was the last time our Pio- neers will be doing this project.
We are also pleased to announce that our local Pioneer Francis Giunta is a candidate for the Iowa House of Representa- tives, House District 27, which is the north side of Dubuque. We wish him well. You may contact Francis at 563-556-5236.
