Ames/Boone/Perry
Our Dutch Oven Bakery meetings still continue at 10:00 a m every Thursday except on holidays. We are getting pretty good-sized groups there with both retired men and women, partners too. Lots of good fellowship, and everyone is welcome. Month-ly luncheons are on hold as of now. They may restart when the weather is better.
December 11th, the day of our Ames, Boone and Perry Christmas party, proved to have one of the worst if not the worst of the many storms to hit central Iowa this winter. We had reservations for over twenty Pioneers at Aunt Maude’s Restaurant in Ames. With ice, heavy snow and warnings not to travel on any roads, our Pioneer dinner party was nearly ruined. We still had the party - with six local Ames Pioneers. We all had a great time with good food and Pioneer fellowship.
We have hospital volunteers in Boone; some of our people go to nursing homes. One Ames partner makes dolls, fluffy bunnies and other stuffed animals for the Mary Greeley Hospital. Another Ames member is an official storm spotter.
It has been a nasty old-time winter, like the ones I remember from when I was a kid. But the heavy snow has mostly missed us here, unlike you there in eastern Iowa. Still we have a good snow cover, probably ten inches or so as of now. Looks as if it’s going to be a wet spring when this melts!
