Our Christmas party was held on December 17th at Hotel Ottumwa. Twenty-one people attended.
We had our January breakfast at the Country Kitchen, and our February luncheon at Hotel Ottumwa. We will continue to alternate breakfasts and luncheons between the two locations for the rest of the year. The meetings will always take place on the fourth Monday of each month.
Former Operators still meet
for lunch at 11:30 a m at the Country Kitchen. The meet- ings are always on the third Wednesday of each month.
We are mostly a social group but some do volunteer work.
Our Pioneer Singers visit nursing homes once or twice each month.
In May of 2007 Max Phillips from Qwest visited Ottumwa and held a meeting in the Fox and Sac Room at Hotel Ottumwa. He spoke about the telecommunications industry in general and specifically about what was happening in the telephone industry. Many Pioneers attended; most of the outside techs came.
Phillips took questions, and answered to the best of his knowledge. He noted that pensions are secure for those who retired before 1990; he also noted that the $10,000 life insurance benefit is still in place. He touched on other topics too.
