Retirees restore memorial to mudslide victims

A grim headline led the front page of the Jan. 17, 1974, edition of The News-Review.

“Repairmen Buried By Massive Slide,” it said, in bold letters running across the top of the page
.

A Group of retired phone company employees teamed up to restore a Memorial at Canyonville’s Stanton Park that was built just months after the slide.

“That was done by friends and family, and just people wanting to build a memorial to the people that we lost in 1974,” said former phone company worker Donald Dilbeck, of Roseburg, who also helped restore the memorial.

Glen helped stuff the 300 plastic eggs with 25 pounds of candy and hid them.  Also $110.00 in Childrens clothes was donated.

 BROWN BAG AUCTION.   Everyone bring a nice item (Value around $5.00) in a Plain Brown   Bag. We will auction these off after lunch and use the money for our Christmas Party.

 

June 12th                   Stanton Park (Canyonville) Potluck Picnic 12Noon to 1:00PM   Bring your Favorite Dish plus A Desert  Work Party 1:00PM to 3:00PM   Clean and apply sealer to Stone Memorial. Apply New Finish to Wood Bench Clean Bronze Plaque

Any one having items to donate can drop them off at Donald Dilbecks at 1152 NW Cherry Drive, Roseburg. I have room to store them in my Shop Building.

NO-BAKE BAKE SALE. Please everyone donate what it would cost you to make that cake or dozen cookies. We will apply the proceeds toward our Christmas All U Can Eat Pizza Feed.

 

December 11th         Annual Christmas Party At Round Table Pizza, 2040 NW Stewart Parkway. Menu will be All-You-Care-To-Eat Pizza, Garden Salad, Soft Drink, Ice Tea or Coffee. Cost will be paid by our Club.
